The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation Endowment

Extending Hanahau‘oli’s Mission

The Professional Development Center at Hanahau‘oli is endowed by the Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation.  The foundation honors Clarence Ching’s legacy with support for organizations that serve the needy, sick and aged, and provides scholarships and grants for research, healthcare and education.  The Foundation’s grants have had significant effects in our community and include funding for both public and private initiatives.

The Ching Foundation’s generous endowment for Teachers Teaching Teachers supports Hanahau‘oli’s efforts to establish partnerships within our community with those seeking to improve education for all children in Hawaii.  The Professional Development Center formalizes Hanahau‘oli’s past efforts to reach out to schools by sharing “best practices,” a thematic/project-based approach to learning, experience with multiage organization, and our efforts at authentic assessment supporting children’s continuous progress.  The gift supports Hanahau‘oli’s commitment to “teachers teaching teachers” demonstrated through partnerships with public and public charter schools, and summer workshops that emphasize “21st Century Skills.”  Faculty from Hanahau‘oli work with colleagues from other schools, sharing their understanding of teaching and learning and best practices which foster school success for all children.  This transformational gift from the Ching Foundation truly helps Hanahau‘oli extend our public purpose.
