We are grateful for the support of partners, individuals, and organizations who value the Professional Development Center’s mission of building upon our school’s longstanding progressive education tradition to provide professional development resources to the greater education community. Following are some of our major donors.

The Dr. Robert G. Peters Scholarship for Early Childhood Education is a fund created in 2024 by the Samuel N. & Mary Castle Foundation to commemorate the work and service of our retired Hanahau‘oli Head of School, founder of the Hanahau‘oli Professional Development Center, and 13 year member and President of the Board of Trustees for the Samuel N. & Mary Castle Foundation. Educators who work with children from birth through age 8 are eligible for an award from this fund. This scholarship also extends to our summer intensive led by Dr. Peters himself, the Hanahau'oli Teacher Collaborative: An Institute for Interdisciplinary Curriculum Design.

The Social Justice Education in Hawai‘i Project was established with a generous gift from Jana and Howard Wolff, parents of Hanahau‘oli School alumnus Ari Wolff ’03, in 2018. Aimed at growing local educators’ capacity for teaching children to be active participants in a diverse democracy, the Social Justice Education in Hawai‘i project funds professional development scholarships and neighbor island travel stipends, in addition to university-level coursework, community public events, networking opportunities for educators, and annual $2,500 Hawai‘i Social Justice Educator Awards. Learn more about the Social Justice Education in Hawai‘i Project here.

Mālama i Nā Keiki is a Hanahau‘oli School annual fundraiser to support the school’s financial aid program and other school projects. Co-sponsored by the Hui Hanahau‘oli parent organization and the Board of Trustees, Mālama i Nā Keiki reunites over 500 people annually to support excellence in education. Generous community members have contributed thousands of dollars annually to Professional Development Center scholarships to extend the resources of our small school to educators in our greater community.

The Hanahau‘oli School Professional Development Center would additionally like to acknowledge the following funders: The Hawaii Education Association, Sharon Himeno Price and Warren Price, Sharon Twigg-Smith, Tracie and Darin Iha, Stephen and Susan Metter, Michael & Arlynna Livingston, Karen & Paul Sullivan, Greg Sato, and The Associated / The Glenn and Debra Weinberg Philanthropic Fund.
