Greetings from Cynthia Gibbs-Wilborn, Head of School

As Hanahau`oli’s 11th Head of School, I am honored to welcome you to our community of learners. I encourage you to take the time to explore our website to learn more about what makes our school so remarkable.

Hanahau`oli prides itself on its “stages-not-ages” approach to learning, recognizing that young minds progress along a developmental continuum at varying rates. Respecting the child as a learner is multifaceted, and our teachers live this in their classrooms with students every day. We strive to develop close connections with children and families, recognizing that these relationships are central to school success.

Hanahau`oli students are independent thinkers, creative inventors, risk takers, public orators, decision makers, and strong citizens. Strolling through any of our classrooms during the school day, you will observe passionate teachers inspiring and nurturing an authentic process of inquiry, engagement and learning. Our goal at Hanahau`oli is to foster self-esteem in children, and inspire a lifelong love of learning and genuine compassion for the people and the world around us.

Our Progressive approach to teaching and learning has benefited children since 1918, and we take seriously our mission to “respect the uniqueness of each individual as it promotes respect for self, others, and our diverse global community.” We value the broad diversity of our school ohana and celebrate the richness it affords. Hanahau`oli means "joyful learning". We continue to live up to our name after nearly a century since our founding. I invite you to come learn more about us!

With Aloha,

Cynthia Gibbs-Wilborn
